OHA Announces 2014-15 Players of the Year Award Winners

JUNIOR A (Ontario Junior Hockey League) – Stephen Hladin (Georgetown Raiders)

Stephen Hladin led the OJHL scoring race virtually from start to finish, kicking-off the year with a 14 game point scoring streak, in a dominant performance during his fourth full OJHL season.  He led all scorers with 63 assists and 104 points in 52 regular season games played to also win the 2014-15 OJHL Top Scorer Award.  The 20-year old Mississauga, Ontario native became one of the greatest scorers in OJHL history, reaching a trio of impressive career milestones this season, including 100 career goals, 150 career assists and 250 career points, as well as more than 300 career points with regular season and playoffs combined.  Spending more time on the ice than in the penalty box, he would register just six penalty minutes all season long to also be voted as the OJHL Most Gentlemanly Player.  Hladin was a member of Team OJHL Oates during the 2014 Central Canada Cup All-Star Challenge that was held in Toronto, notching three points in five games played.  He is committed to join the Sacred Heart University Pioneers beginning with the 2015-16 Atlantic Hockey Conference, NCAA Division I season.

JUNIOR B (Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League) – Chris Scott (Leamington Flyers)

As a 20-year-old native of Windsor, Ontario, Chris Scott proved instrumental this year for the GOJHL Western Conference Leamington Flyers. Scoring 26 goals and adding 28 assists in 47 games, Scott led his club in regular season points. Helping to lead the Flyers to a first place regular season finish in their conference, he would add 7 goals and five assists in their 21 post season games. Named the CHOK Western Conference Player of the year, Scott was also awarded the Kevin McIntosh Award as the Western Conference Best Defensive forward for the second year in a row. Scott also participated in the 2014-15 GOJHL All-Star Game. Known as a quiet but tenacious player, Scott remains focused on his life goals. Currently Scott attends the University of Windsor where he has a 75 per-cent average in Kinesiology-Movement Science and plans on obtaining a second degree in Computer Science upon completion of his major.  

JUNIOR C (Central Ontario Junior C Hockey League) – Terry Snoddon (Little Britain Merchants)

A native of Sunderland, Ontario, Terry Snoddon proved to be a prolific leader for the Little Britain Merchants this past season. Scoring 34 goals and 38 assists his 72 points in 41 games ranked first in the Central Ontario Junior C Hockey League in goals and points produced. The Merchants Assistant Captain managed to score 4 goals and 3 assists in his 8 post season games this past season. Named the OHA Central Junior C Player of the Month for December, Snoddon received the Elinor Gilliam Memorial Trophy as the League’s Top Scorer and also the Erve Downey Memorial Award as the League’s Most Valuable Player. Passionate about the game of hockey, Snoddon plays at both ends of the ice and is respected not just by his own teammates but by his opponents as well. Currently enrolled at Durham College in Oshawa, Snoddon sports an 83 per-cent average in his Electrical Engineering course and plans to become an electrician following graduation.

SENIOR AAA (Allan Cup Hockey) – Darren Doherty (Norwood Vipers)

Darren Doherty is to put it simply, the leader of the Norwood Vipers. The second year member of the Vipers team was named Captain this season upon returning to the lineup for the beginning of the 2014-15 campaign. Finishing the season with 20 goals, 14 assists he ranked fifth in League scoring. The native of Peterborough played four seasons for the Cobourg Cougars of the then OPJHL (now OJHL) before becoming an Rochester (RIT) Tiger, graduating in 2006 with his undergraduate BSC and his Masters degree in Environmental Science. In the 2009-10 season he played for Herner HV in the Oberligua in Germany. Doherty is currently employed as an Environmental Supervisor for EXP Energy Services.

Other OHA Award winners will be announced over the coming days. All 2014-15 OHA Award Winners will received their awards at the Hockey Hall of Fame on Friday, June 5th.
